CRC Office of Social Justice Statement on the U.S. Supreme Court Decision about the Travel Ban
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the president has the authority to ban travelers from certain Muslim-majority countries. In response to this ruling, Rev. Dr. Reggie Smith, director of the CRC Office of Social Justice and the CRC Office of Race Relations, released the following statement:
"Synod 2010 urged the Office of Social Justice to engage in policy development and advocacy strategies that will lead to immigration reform and the enactment of fair, just, and equitable laws regarding those without status in Canada and the United States. The United States Supreme Court's decision to uphold the travel ban on people from five Muslim-majority countries is disappointing. We seek efforts to 'welcome the stranger' without xenophobia and suspicion."
